Knoch High School 9-12 Curriculum
Knoch High School’s program of studies offers many formal programs that meet the needs of students with academic and vocational-technical interests. Honors courses are offered in English and Biology. Advanced placement courses are offered in US History, Art History, Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science (Java), Computer Science Principles (Python), English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, European History, Macroeconomics, Physics, Pre-Calculus w/ Trigonometry, and Statistics. College in High School Courses include European History, US History, Psychology, Spanish IV, Spanish V, German IV, German V, College Accounting, and Child Development II through LaRoche University and Physics through the University of Pittsburgh. Students are also encouraged to pursue interests outside of the classroom through co-curricular and extracurricular activities offered through the high school.
Knoch Middle School 6-8 Curriculum
Knoch Middle School educates the district’s 6-8 grade population. The school's goal is to develop students into citizens who are ready to act as leaders in their community. We achieve this goal by focusing on intellectual ability, increasing student self-esteem, and helping students cope with the changes they are experiencing. Additionally, we are dedicated to providing students ample opportunity to put their acquired skills into practice. In addition to the standard core curriculum, students can explore fields like Computer Engineering, Music, Art, and higher-level English, Math, and Science Courses. The Middle School tackles topics like bullying head-on through curricular resources, guest speakers, and classroom presentations. Student clubs and activities, many sponsored through the PTSO, offer students the chance to have fun with their peers.
Knoch Intermediate Elementary School 4-5 Curriculum
Knoch Intermediate Elementary School educates the district’s fourth and fifth-grade students. Homeroom teachers partner with each other and with teacher specialists to provide a progressive program of Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Social Studies, Science, and English. Students in fourth and fifth grade follow a partially departmentalized class schedule in preparation for middle school. Classroom teachers are specialists in their subjects to provide students with rich learning opportunities. The math classrooms provide strong foundational instruction that includes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, problem-solving, communication, and a positive mathematical disposition. Students are engaged with the components of Building Thinking Classrooms that aim to help students cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and collaboration. There is an emphasis in the Science Curriculum on the Engineering Design Process, which supports the problem-solving and higher-level thinking components utilized in the math classrooms. The Reading and English classrooms focus on developing comprehensive reading strategies using authentic text and supporting lifelong reading habits. All students report to art, music, library, and physical education and receive computer instruction. Learning support classes and gifted support classes are also offered for children who qualify for these programs. The Title I program assists in supporting students by providing a personalized learning environment where instruction is differentiated for each student's specific learning style.
Knoch Primary School K-3 Curriculum
Knoch Primary School (KPS) educates the District’s K-3 population. Kindergarten students experience a full-day program that balances academic and social-emotional learning. In Grade One, a self-contained classroom setting is utilized with a progressive program of reading, mathematics, writing, social studies, science, and English. Grades Two and Three are partially departmentalized and continue with the same core subjects such as reading, mathematics, writing, social studies, science, and English. The focus at KPS is always on educating the whole child across all grade levels. Depending on grade level, students participate in a variety of special courses such as Music, Gym, Art, Computer, and Library. Title I Reading and Math supports are available to meet the needs of learners through a range of targeted interventions and supports. In addition, special education services and supports, as well as gifted services, are provided for students who qualify. Students are offered a variety of evidence-based strategies and multimodal learning opportunities to support their growth as expert learners in all subject areas. Focusing on differentiated methodologies, along with the promotion of equitable instructional environments, our goal is to establish a balance of challenging rigor while still having fun!
