Ms. Marissa Damon
Career and Intervention School Counselor

I graduated from Thiel College in 2015 with my bachelor's degree and received my master's in counseling from Geneva College. Prior to receiving my master's degree, I worked in various school districts in roles such as an AmeriCorps member, Prevention Specialist, and Student Assistance Program (SAP) representative.

Over the years I have had the honor to work alongside students and parents in providing support and resources in overcoming barriers in their academic journey. My role at Knoch School District is to integrate career awareness and development as it relates to career readiness upon graduation. I also am the SAP Coordinator for the middle and high schools.

Careers

I work with students in both classroom lessons and events on career exploration and career-ready skills.  I also meet with students individually when they would like to discuss their career plans.  I encourage our high school students to take advantage of job shadowing opportunities to get a realistic idea of what a day in a career looks like, so if you (family member/community member) are willing to allow students to shadow your profession, please reach out to me so I can add you to our Career Contacts list.

Intervention

As a school counselor with a unique K-12 caseload, I collaborate with our grade-level school counselors on crisis response, individual counseling, small groups, and building initiatives.

I am the Student Assistance Program (SAP) Coordinator for the middle and high school buildings.  If you have concerns about your student or another student (for example: academic concerns, attendance, mental health, behavioral, social, bullying, substance abuse, etc.), we have a trained team in place to support students and assist in removing barriers to students' education.  We also work with a behavioral health-certified liaison from the Center for Community Resources, who can assist with connecting families with outside-of-school supports as needed.  Please contact me if you would like to learn more about what SAP can do to support your student.  I can talk to you about your concerns for any student K-12, or you can reach out to your child's grade-level counselor for more information.
